Our founders were promoting literacy well before establishing this organization. All three founders of Moms Who Care, Inc. have Haitian ancestry and in 2017 and 2018 the team collaborated with another organization to support library expansion projects at Renaissance Academy in Les Cayes (2017) and Ecole Fondamentale DāApplication Centre DāAppui Pedagogique in Mirebalais (2018). They supported these two schools by donating over 200 books (in French and Haitian Creole) to their libraries.
In 2019, the team participated in an educational summit led by NYC Principal, Dr. Max Jean-Paul. Our founders led workshops about mental health awareness and lesson planning techniques for atypical learners for the teachers in attendance.
In 2019, our founders also traveled to Kenya to support the Travel & Give organization in training teachers and students on how to use a digital literacy program called Dream Galaxy. This program allows teachers to build the studentsā literacy skills using a multi-sensory approach! It was so much fun and fulfilling!
COVID-19 suspended all travel for the team in 2020. Hopefully we will be able to support the international community in the future.
These projects motivated the team to officially establish Moms Who Care, Inc. in 2020 to promote literacy right here in New York.
